Fixed bridge

Replace one or more missing teeth

If a tooth is missing, it is important to replace it with a false tooth (or artificial tooth) as soon as possible.

This will prevent the remaining teeth from becoming misaligned and causing other problems. A bridge, also called a fixed bridge or fixed partial denture, is permanently attached to the adjacent healthy teeth and replaces one or more teeth.

The procedure

  • The dentist prepares the two teeth adjacent to the missing tooth to receive a crown.
  • The replacement tooth and the 2 crowns are made to measure in the laboratory, in one piece.
  • The dentist places the bridge permanently by cementing it to the 2 adjacent healthy teeth.

The bridge should last about 10 years if you take good care of it. Your dentist will show you how to use a floss threader to thread the floss around the artificial tooth in the center of the bridge.
